Transdisciplinary experiential learning activity - "Hello Future"
Hello Future Programme:Saving the Dinosaurs
To prepare students for future challenges and to equip them well with 21st Century skills, the Wun Tsuen School has designed a school-based "Hello Future Programme". Through project-based learning and experiential activities, students get to “learn by doing”. In the process, they cultivate the mindsets, skills and abilities needed for the next generation. The theme of 2023-2024 is "Saving the Dinosaurs". Students from all levels became members of the Wun Tsuen Rescue Team and carried out various missions.
Primary 1: Students researched information about load-bearing principles to make rescue boats to help the trapped baby dinosaurs cross the river.
Primary 2: Students explored different vehicle types like rubber band cars, balloon cars, wind-powered cars and solar cars in class. They then used various materials to make rescue vehicles to help the trapped baby dinosaurs get out of the forest.
Primary 3: Students learned about the principles behind protective materials, then worked in teams to make "dinosaur egg parachutes" using selected materials to help the mother dinosaur protect her newborn eggs.
Primary 4: Students learned about the history, types and structural principles of bridges, and then built safe and sturdy bridges to help the separated mother dinosaur and baby dinosaurs reunite.
Primary 5: Students learned coding-related knowledge and made sensory-equipped rescue vehicles to search for the dinosaur eggs scattered in the forest.
Primary 6: Students learned coding knowledge and made programmable drones to help the baby dinosaurs escape the dangerous volcano.
Hello Future Day
During the end of the term, the large-scale learning exhibition "Hello Future Day" was held. Teachers set up different scenarios for students to test their research results. Students eagerly participated in the competitions. Phrases like “Yes, it works!”, “We did it!'' and “Yeah!” and loud applause echoed all around the school. Students supported each other as they quickly improved their designs while facing challenges. They demonstrated a spirit of perseverance. It was a valuable and enjoyable experience for all.
